Project

Today I am going to talk about a recent project that I’m starting.  I usually work on my own projects, but this time I am working with my boyfriend Nicolás.   He is a musician, a folk singer. He makes little concerts in many different bars in Santiago.  I always help him with his graphic content, the posters and the photography.  Now he is starting to work in his fist disc, so the work that I must do is his songbook that will come with the disc (and I also have to create the disc sleeve but I am more excited for the songbook). We haven’t figured it out how we will make it or how will it look like but the fist thing he must do is the pass me the lyrics of the songs and then I should start thinking how i’ll do it. I have a few ideas tho, maybe it will be like a fanzine, or maybe like a pop-up songbook.  I think is a little bit difficult, because I want to capture exactly what he wants and I want it to look great. I don’t know how lo...

Ema

Imagen
I love watching movies, I love going to the movies. I go every time I can, and when I can't I go anyways. And it's very difficult to decide what my favorite movie would be, so I'll talk about the last movie I went to see at the cinema: Ema, by Chilean director Pablo Larraín. I went to see this movie last week, with three friends. Ema stars Mariana di Girolamo, as Ema, and Gael García, as Gastón, her husband. The film is set in Valparaíso, and is about a young couple, Ema and Gastón, both involved in a contemporary dance company, who decide to return their adopted son. Ema wants to fix the damage she has done to her son, but otherwise, she feels unable to take care of him. The film shows some difficulties of the adoption process and how painful it can be, also questioning the meaning of family. It is more symbolic and experimental. Through dance, it delivers a strange and extravagant feeling, a little difficult to digest. I liked it a lot, from t...

Special Celebration

Imagen
Today I am going to talk about a special celebration that I really liked and it was really fun. Last year my roomates and I throw a Christmas party in our apartment. It was like the 8th of december and we did it because one of my friends was going to Europe for one month and we wanted to celebrate christmas in our home. We decorated the apartment completely, we put lights everywhere, and a friend of mine lent us his christmas tree. Our apartment is always pretty but I think that time was the most beautiful it has ever been.  We made dinner for the three of us and a lot of Sangría (with a lot of fruit) and that was delicious. We invited about 30 people and we also made a digital invitation, they came after our dinner.  We had a dress code with a red garment, so everyone went with red clothes, even one friend bought a red t-shirt just for the occasion.  And we had a lot of fun, we danced a lot and we baked duchess potatoes at 3 am. Although the next...

Free Post - Fast Fashion

Imagen
Hi:-) today I am going to talk about a topic that interests me a lot, fast fashion. Fast fashion is the phenomenon by which clothing collections are introduced that follow the latest trends and have been designed and manufactured in an accelerated way and at a low cost. With this, the industry offers the costumer the access new clothings at affordable prices and continuously. This trend has meant that the average use of a new garment is only seven times before being thrown away, and in the last 20 years there has been a 400% increase in the consumption of clothing on the planet. What do you think is the environmental impact of all of this? it is a lot. There is also the Social impact that also concerns, such as labor abuse. The documentary 'The True Cost', explains the consequences of fast fashion and reveals that in the world there are about 40 million textile workers, of which 85% are women, many of them minors, earning two dollars per day in under inhuman wo...

Nothing to celebrate

Imagen
When I was younger, I liked fondas, barbecues and I even enjoyed dancing in “del guaton loyola’s fonda”, which is very well known in Chile, and is close to where I live in Los Andes. While I was growing up, I began to learn different things and developed a more critical opinion about this month. Now I don't feel September is a month of celebration. Obviously it is nice because we have a vacation week, but at the same time it is a month where the history of Chile is remembered, about the military dictatorship and the thousands of detaine-disappeared during that period. I like to have vacations and gather together to drink with my friends, but I feel that at this time many other things that I don’t like about our society come out, such as the exaggerated consumption of meat, the rodeos (which I feel is a form of terrible torture that should be punished and should be illegal) and especially the people’s stupid patriotism. This September 18 I will go to my home ...

A job I would like to have

Imagen
If I was asked to choose a job I would like to work in, it would be very confusing, because I am in a time in my life when I would like to do a lot of things. I have always had a great interest in plastic arts, in drawing, painting and embroidery. I would like to travel throughout my life, like, I want to live in a different place and move every 4 years. And my dream would be to illustrate a magazine or independently work as a freelance. I would really like to be drawing all day, illustrate for editorials, and show my point of view of things through drawing and understand with it what people want to say or show. An illustrator that I like once said “a drawing is an act of love that many people forget” and I feel that it is indeed so. People may have the job of illustrators very underestimated, but I think it is a very beautiful way to express ideas, to illustrate stories, things f daily life and experiences. To become an illustrator, the first thing I have to do is...

Greatest chilean

Imagen
Today I am going to talk about a woman that I think is really important in chile, and her legacy will always be with us. Her name is Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval, she was born  in 1917 and died in 1967. She is one of the most recognized chilean composers of all time. She was a folkloric singer, composer of poems and “décimas” and a popularizer of popular music in Chile. She was an artist in many ways, she was also a sculptor, potter and painter. At the age of 9 she started to learn guitar and singing, and when she was 12 she wrote her first songs. At 17, she started to sing in different bars and restaurants with her sister Hilda.  In the 50s, encouraged by her brother Nicanor, Violeta began to collect and collate authentic Chilean folk music from all over the country. and I think that was her most important work. She traveled a lot in her life, she lived many years in Europe where she developed her musical career and where she pl...
